The Catholic diocese
St. Columba Church

Brief Description:

“The Cathedral Church of St. Columba is the home of the Cathedral Parish and the Mother Church of the Diocese of Youngstown, which comprises the six counties of northeast Ohio:  Mahoning, Trumbull, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Stark, and Portage.

While built originally to serve the Irish and German immigrants who had moved to the city to work in the cities’ steel mills, the parish now serves a variety of ethnic groups, many of whom are represented by the saints pictured in the mosaic which graces the sanctuary. The Cathedral also serves as a cultural mecca for the city and as a center for performing arts, hosting many different events showcasing sacred and classical music, including an annual concert in honor of our patron, St. Columba of Iona, whose feast is celebrated on June 9, an annual celebration of Advent Lessons and Carols, and various concerts presented by Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. the Cathedral is the home church of our diocesan Bishop, the Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J.”

Recently, the church was in need of renovations and updates. Our team worked diligently to design power distribution and electrical services to replace the existing HVAC system. We also completed the plaza’s lighting design. The cathedral now has exterior up-lighting to provide the structure with a “heavenly glow.”
